Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BDCST) is a hands on therapy that encourages and orients to the clients optimal health. Biodynamic craniosacral work is a client centered hands on therapy which tracks the bodies subtle rhythms and patterned movements with an orientation towards expansion, health and holism. It is an interactive approach which encourages groundedness, health and presence.
Through a uniquely expansive, relational touch the practitioner can tune into and follow patterns of congestion, recognize held and contracted areas and sense areas of thickened fascia tissue. Essentially this process allows for a clearing of energies which do not belong in the system. This quality of touch allows an opportunity for the body to widen, expand, open out and restore its natural rhythms and movements; thereby allowing for the restoration of intelligence within cells and tissues. BDCST focuses on resolving trauma within tissues.
“When the body moves, it moves around the held place.” ~ Louis Schultz & Rosemary Feitis
All trauma has a bioenergetic imprint – energy which organizes neurological, vascular, endocrine and immunological responses to trauma. The body essentially orients around a physical or emotional trauma. Trauma creates tissue and cellular disorganization.
“It takes force from without to create trauma with body physiology, and some of this force is left as a part of every traumatic experience. The body absorbs some of these added force factors, which I will call biokinetic energy, and this force becomes part of the physiology within the traumatic area and, in part, throughout the total body. These added force factors can be admitted to the body from injuries that begin before or during birth as well as from trauma in childhood through adulthood to old age. After a trauma is released through treatment or in a case where trauma leaves no residual, the biokinetic energies totally dissipate back to the external environment, and only the bioenergy or wellness remains.” ~ Rollin Becker, D.O.
Craniosacral Therapy is about remembering who we are, relearning (or learning for the first time) to trust the inherent wisdom in our bodies and surrendering to the healing process; staying present with what is. Through a practice of embodied connection – through the unknown and embracing the mystery – we create a space for deep transformational healing and shifts to occur.
A client-directed therapy, meaning that the practitioner listens to the shifts, pulls, rhythms and communications of the client body, while remaining engaged in a state of spacious neutrality. The practitioner follows the cues of the body rather than guiding the session. Craniosacral is about BE-ing rather than do-ing, listening to the bodies priorities without inserting fixed agendas thereby engaging the clients own internal self regulating and healing capacity supports coherent rhythms and order to emerge.
A more precise explanation:
- Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy helps people balance their nervous system.
- Practitioner presence and neutrality allows the clients system to express.
- The work focuses on trusting the intelligence of the body to adjust, unwind and orient towards health.
- Encourages the client to notice and track sensations in their body in the present time, not leading from an overwhelming event of the past. Feeling and movements generated from the innate wisdom inside the body are the guiding force of this work.
- Movement from trauma to wholeness.
- A process of retraining the brain.
- A process of body wisdom and possibility.
- A safe space for the body to express, unwind and resource.
- Ideal for supporting the birth process, life processes and transition processes.
- A process encouraging reconnection to and restoration of intelligence within the body.
- A return to simplicity; yet in the simplicity there is everything, including the utmost infinity of embracing all that is.
